Education

Touring our Museum is an educational experience for people of any age. You will be made aware of the Owen Sound and area marine, rail and industrial history. Your Museum experience will develop historical and geographic inquiry. Visitors will leave realizing, appreciating, and valuing the importance of preserving the history and growth and development of our area by means of industry, shipping, and railway artifacts.

Through curriculum-based materials, the Owen Sound Marine & Rail Museum School Program will assist schools in a concrete, practical context through a Museum experience and learning activities, to develop students historic and geographic inquiry skills. Students will utilize oral and written language, math, and artistic mediums as they study:

  • Historical transportation (marine,rail,etc.)
  • Geography: Natural Resources, Transportation & Local Industry
  • Early Communication and its' role in Historical Transportation

How can we help?

We look forward to working with you, the educators. If it isn't on the menu, our Owen Sound Museums' Heritage Interpreter is happy to work with you to adapt our working artifacts, exhibits, materials, and modules seamlessly into your classroom. All of our in-house programs can be made into in-class programs. We encourage you to consider us for curriculum needs.

Program Fees

IN-HOUSE: $3 per student, with a minimum fee of $30.

If your class visits both Museums in the same day, the cost is $5 per student. If you wish to include a craft/project, the cost is an additional $1 per student per craft/project. 1 teacher/adult is admitted free for every 6 students

IN-CLASS: $125 per presentation.

Cancellation Policy

Please Note: Weask that a non-refundable deposit of $25 be paid upon booking withfull payment idue no less than 2 weeks before the event. Ifa class cancels up to 2 weeks before the event and has already paid,all but $25 will be refunded.

This cancellation policy applies toboth the in-classroom programs and the programs in the museum, as well as tours and non-education program bookings.
